Importance of Srila Prabhupada’s Books

IMPORTANCE OF SRILA PRABHUPADA BOOKS

Abhay Charan De now known as H D G A C Bhakti Vedant Swami Srila Prabhupada was born on Sept 1,1896, in Kolkatta, India. His father Gaur Mohan De was a cloth merchant and mother was Rajani. Acc to Bengali tradition, his father approached an astrologer to calculate His horoscope.The astrologer predicted that at the age of 70 He would cross the ocean,become a great exponent of religion and open 108 temples.

Srile Prabhupada was a pioneer of ISKCON. His main mission was the printing and distribution of His Transcendental Books. This order was given to Him by His Spiritual Master H D G Bhakti Siddhanta Sarasvati Thakur Srila Prabhupada. Srila Prabupada would take rest around 10pm and rise about midnight and early morning hours to write His Transcendental books. He worked hard for our benefit, His books has saved the live’s of many conditioned souls. He changed the “Hippies” into ” Happies”. Srila Prabhupada wrote and published over 80 volumes of Spiritual Literature.He wrote Books with great care and devotion in translating the ancient Sanskrit Vedic Litratures into English.
Once of His disciple asked Srila Prabhupada :” How can I please You”?
Srila Prabhupada immediately replied : ” You can please Me the Most by reading My Books and following the instructions therein”. Our advancement in Krishna Consciousness is mainly by two reasons, Knowledge and renunciation, jnana & tyaga or tapasya which we get by reading His Books.

The Scriptures gives information about the Spiritual reality. His Books are real treasure to the modern society. His first Book was BACK TO GODHEAD, Books like Srimad Bhagavatam, Bhagavad Gita, Nectar Of Devotion, Nectar Of Instruction, Sri Caitanya Caritamrita and many more books has given the Divya gyan and has transformed the heart of the fallen soul to the Spiritual World ( Back to Godhead), to reunite our lost relationship with the Lord.

Srimad Bhagvatam – 18,000 verses 12 volumes. It is an epic Sanskrit history of Krsna’s incarnations, past times. Also gave wonderful example of the activities of the devotees and the Lord.
Bhagavad Gita As It Is – enlightens us the purpose of life and how to achieve ultimate success in this world and the next.

Sri Caitanya Caritamrita – a nine volume Bengali biography of the life and teachings of the Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu.

Nectar Of Devotion – is a summary study of Rupa Gosvami’s Classic Bhakti Rasamrit Sindhu an detailed description of the Science of Bhakti Yoga, an devotional service to the Supreme Personality Of Godhead Krsna.
Nectar Of Instruction – The Nectar of Instruction, contains eleven lessons in the ancient science of bhakti-yoga.This is an compact guidebook of essential spiritual teachings about how to choose a Guru, how to practice yoga, even where to live – originally written in Sanskrit by Srila Rupa Gosvami, now translated and illuminated by His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, The Nectar of Instruction is the key to enlightenment for all seekers on the path of spiritual perfection.

Srila Prabhupada once said to his devotees that,” I will never die”. Physically he may have disappeared from sight but through His wonderful books we get the association of Dear Srila Prabhupada. His books are now published by the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust almost in 57 languages, 80 volumes with a billion copies sold.

So, after hearing from our previous acaryas, we should try to understand it through Srila Prabhupada’s teachings and example. With the Srila Prabhupada’s mercy we should implement in our day to day life and please our dear Srila Gurudev and Srila Prabhupada . In this way, we should begin and end with Srila Prabhupada’s books.
